MOTHER OF THE YEAR
10.31.07  |  Personal

So, this blog post is for Shannon...I told her that Grayson had to be a Saint for Halloween at the school party. Good old Catholic School. She wanted to see pictures...so of course there is a story to my day and the images.

I started the day at Nolan's party. I was in charge of treat bags. I was so proud of my pumpkin bags filled with toys and candy. I let Nolan pick out some Halloween straws for the bags. Of course, they are the straws that sound like a whistle when you blow in them. He was thrilled picking out pumpkin, ghost and skeleton straws that whistle.

Two minutes into the party, it sounds like a train in the classroom with high-pitched whistles and a mom says "I'd like to meet the Mom that sent those straws in." I was torn between saying "yea, it was me...and" or just ignoring it. Being the bigger person, I ignored it but it made me mad nonetheless...hey, the kids had fun.

And then we move on to Grayson's party in the afternoon. The kindergarteners had to pick a Saint and dress like him/her for a Halloween/All Saint's Day presentation. Grayson and I poured over Saints on the internet. I didn't want him to have a common Saint --I figured he should pick something that meant something to him. I was so proud when he picked St. Camillus, the patron Saint of Hospitals because his Dad works in a hospital. I proceeded to create the brown robe costume...so proud of myself for finding the perfect rope for the waist. And so...

The kids filed in the church while the 8th graders sang "when the saints go marching in"...and so Grayson marches in looking like a hobo of a saint. Someone should have told me there was a Catholic Saints Costumes for Kids website!
Poor Gray! Oh, my humilation gets better...

The kids then have to go up to the alter with an 8th grader who researched their saint and give a little info on the saint. Hey, I just read Patron Saint of Hosptials...perhaps I should have read a few lines down to find out Saint Camillus, though dedicated to the incurables and infirm, had a gambling problem that plagued him his whole life and left him destitute...and what 8th grader doesn't start the story off with the juicy details of gambling! I wanted to sink into the carpet...why didn't I pick a nice and pius Saint?

It was a fun Halloween nonetheless. I hope yours was safe...and fun as well.
Signing off with my two favorite Darth Vaders.
May the force be with you!

SHANA AND KEN
10.30.07  |  Weddings

Ah, the final wedding of the season. It is always a little melancholy for me and I always, always want to do a killer job for people. This was a easy wedding to do just that. Nice families, gorgeous bride and groom and fabulous vendors. (I guess I say fabulous too much while shooting because the bridesmaids busted me on it ...I get in groove and don't realize how silly I sound)

So first things first...the rehearsal dinner. The star of the night was McFoxy. No, I don't mean the groom, though he is a Dr. with the last name Fox and he is handsome. It was another creation from Minette Rushing Custom Cakes. I heard a few waiters at Vic's on the River kept the fox head for Halloween..hmmm?

The evening was filled with love, warm wishes and wonderful toasts.

Of course, the view from Vic's Stoddard Room was fantastic...

The next day was gorgeous and Tricia Huddas, the best event planner ever...blessed us with a nice and loose schedule so we had plenty of time all day to take amazing images.
Shana was stunning and, so, so easy to photograph. I mean, I really didn't have to do anything but click a button --she is that beautiful.

Vicki at Kiwi Fleur out did herself on this wedding. I have known Vicki a long time and she never, ever ceases to amaze me. Everyone raved about the flowers.

See what I mean...

A few stolen moments...

Shana's parents holding hands --LOVE THIS --when I catch this it is like buried treasure to me!

Enjoy Aruba, Dr. and Mrs. McFoxy! And thank you for including me in your day.

A little shout out to Melissa and her fiance who got engaged last Saturday. I was so touched that I got to meet you before you've even chosen your venue. Enjoy planning and let me know if you need help.

For the rest of my devout blog readers --it is going to be a little touch and go this week on the old blog. Big happenings this weekend and you'll hear all about it next week. Hang tight! It is worth it!

The Good Family
10.25.07  |  Portraits

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of meeting some new clients, The Good Family. Kelly and Matt tell me they were fans of mine after seeing some of their Savannah friends photographs. So while on vacation here, they scheduled a session. With 2 kids under 2, I know how stressful a session can be (my poor kids barely have any images of them that are formal), so I try to make it low key and fun.

Meet Charlie and Lucy...

Lucy was quite a doll. She was so cooperative and even gave me a big hug after we were finished

Poor Charlie was under the weather...we captured some sweet shots anyway.

Couple are so focused on the kids and running around chasing them...that is how parenthood goes. Sometimes we forget how this crazy life started. I was happy Kelly and Matt agreed to let me snap a few images of them...so they could remember this time in their life.

It was my pleasure. - DVB

MARCI IS HERE!
10.22.07  |  Portraits

Sweet Marci Sayers arrived 3 weeks ago! Marci's Mom Maria is one of my favorite people. We laugh so hard whenever we are together --I love that about her. I am so honored she chose me to mark her daughter's (and her son's) entrance into this crazy, beautiful world. Congrats and get some sleep, Sayers family:)

Big Brother, Osten, is showing some concern over the latest developments at his household

All better - now that we are back in the spotlight:)

MELISSA AND JAY
10.21.07  |  Weddings

You know, I had the best time last night at Melissa and Jay's wedding. Of course, Melissa and Jay were gracious and wonderful on their wedding day. Their relaxed attitude made my job easy and a joy. They even wanted a picture with me --I love that!

That being said, I want to share with you how blessed I am to have two wonderful photographers as part of the DVB Team. Company Photographers, Kelli Boyd and Heather Shell came along for the ride last night. Not only did we get fabulous images for Melissa and Jay, we had the best time ever. We laughed until our stomachs hurt --I swear, sometimes about nothing. We shared and encouraged one another --with Melissa being a fabulous sport about each of us finding our vision. It was a little paparrazzi, though...check out the shot I grabbed of Heather and Kelli --they are on the right.

Here are our three view points of the same portrait session. I was so impressed by Heaher and Kelli's understanding of light and using it to paint the image they wanted. The first one is mine - then Heather --then Kelli. They are truly talents and I am so grateful they bring their talents to the DVB image.

Now, back to our wonderful Bride and Groom. It was a packed hour at First United Methodist...people standing in the aisles. Everyone was so happy for Meliss and Jay --including us! Here is Kellie and Heather's point of view...

Here is a cool detail --the wedding cake topper from Melissa's grandmother's cake. I love stuff like this.

Have a great time in NY, Melissa and Jay! Thanks for the opportunity to witness your love...and for the chance to work with my favorite photographers!
