Up, the only way
05.30.09  |  Personal

At 6:57 last night, I decided that I was going to take my kids to see the 7pm showing of Up --Pixar's latest magical creation.

Yes, that is how I roll sometimes...last minute. It was their last day of school and Lou was on call. I was flying solo with the kids and
it has been absolutely nuts at our house. Lou and I tag-teaming parenting while we get through wedding season, baseball season for the boys and the end of school. At 6:50 --after a makeshift dinner of spaghetti, I looked around at my house --and all the work --and my kids spaghetti-smeared faces and had had enough.

There were toys from two days ago still scattered on the floor, a basket of whites that needed to be folded --now so wrinkled I would have to rewash them --dishes, papers, and mail littering my kitchen island...beds unmade, clean clothes needed to return to their respective homes instead of parked on my dining room table. Life had just exploded on me and I could not take one more day of treading water. If you know me, you know this is unusual. My house is a haven to me and I like it orderly and clean. The snapshot I got when I looked around sent me over the edge.

I have never seen 2 kids move so fast to brush their teeth and wash their faces. We made it to the move at 7:08 --and didn't miss a thing even buying the required popcorn and treats. Thank goodness for 15 minutes of previews!

Up was just what I needed -- a little escape. I cried like a baby. In my business, you'd think I am a sap --but not so. I am however, a sucker for a great love story.
And while Up is about opening your heart and moving on when life shuts you down ---the story of the marriage of Carl, the main character and his wife, Ellie is one I wish for every time I pick up my camera for a wedding.

Each Saturday, I just hope they are the couple --the ones who have got it...because when you've got that special love --life is an amazing and joyful adventure.

Up --go see it.

Hampton Island Wedding Photographer - Emily and Brian
05.27.09  |  Weddings

It is true...I get to travel to amazing places to photograph weddings...Jamaica, Bahamas...Lake Placid, Maine, Vermont. Still my heart is in the Low Country..there is nothing like a wedding with the smell of the salty marsh in the air. Several months ago I introduced you to a fabulous venue just beginning to open their special style of hospitality to weddings, Hampton Island. The staff is as amazing as the location and it is going to be the coveted gem of wedding locations in the next several months. But, I'll fill you in plenty more about Hampton Island later.

Sunday, I was honored to photograph one of the first weddings at Hampton Island,...Emily and Brian. Emily and Brian and their family and friends came from all over the country to gather at Hampton Island for a relaxed celebration. When I say relaxed...I mean that nothing, nothing mattered more to Emily and Brian than marrying one another. They have that special bond...that soft yet strong love I only get to see glimpses of every so often. It is such an honor to witness that kind of love...and it always makes me go home...even after 12 years...and cuddle right up to Louis, thanking God he is with me.

Emily was radiant, with an easy, easy style...slipping on leopard flip flops in a nod to her glam-loving grandma while Brian wrapped his grandfather's watch around his wrist. These two get what matters --relationships, love, caring for the people in your life. They will take good care of one another for the rest of their lives and I can only hope these images show one tenth of the love they radiate.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You could have chosen anyone to share your day...to see your day for you.
You chose me and I am honored.

Cowboy boots, Coronas, and Kenny Chesney
05.26.09  |  Personal

Last week I walked into the office as a normal Monday...Donna was on her way to shoot an awesome wedding in the Bahamas and I will say that I was pretty bummed that I was not with her. Much to my suprise she had a little something to cheer up my woes. When I arrived at the office there was a note posted on my computer that read pure greatness...TICKETS TO KENNY CHESNEY.! To say the least I was shocked. I cried, screamed, jumped up and down and immediately called Donna. I have never received something so thoughtful. She always knows just the right thing to do to make someone happy...

My great friend Heather was my date for the big night. As we entered the Bi-Lo center in Greenville SC we were so excited we couldn't even talk to each other. We had a specific gameplan entering into the concert..bathroom, coronas, and then to our seats. When we found our seats they were awesome. We were on the first row of our section. We were in awe trying to digest everything. Miranda Lambert was the opening act for him. She came on and the crowd went crazy! Everyone was singing, dancing and having a blast. Heather and I are grinning ear to ear when this man approaches us...He said "Hi Ladies, can I see your wrists?" we were like what does this guy want..Heather looks at me and says..."Oh I know this drill. GIve him your wrist!. We handed him our wrists and he banded them with one of the greatest gifts that we have ever received...SAND BAR PASSES...in case any of you are not sure what this means... they are stage front passes... He lead us there and told us to have a great time...Heather was shaking she was so excited. I seriously couldn't talk to her for 5 minutes...The rest is history! We danced and sang our hearts out all night long. To the man that gave us this amazing gift...thank you!

Just wanted to share our experience with all of you...

ps all of these images were taken with my iphone. Sorry in advance for the bad quality...

Thanks DVB for one of the top 5 best moments in my life....I am sure Heather would agree as well!

Happy Monday!

Kelli
